Acclimating Tips
6.6M PETKIT families tried, tested, and shared.

Step 1
Start Gradually
It’s okay if your cat doesn’t use the new box right away. Place it next to the old one and let your cat explore at their own pace. Most hesitation is about change, not rejection. Keep the old box for now, and slowly retire it once your cat is comfortable.

Step 2
Make It Feel Familiar
You can always add a small scoop of used litter into the new box. Familiar scent helps signal that it’s safe.

Step 3
Start with the Automation Off
Turn auto-clean OFF at first. Let your cat get comfortable before introducing movement.

Step 4
Adjust the Strategy
Scoop the new litter box more often at first, and gradually cut back on cleaning the old one. Cats are picky about smells, and a fresh box makes them more likely to explore and start using it.

Step 5
If They’re Still Hesitant
Sometimes it’s the little things. If your cat still seems unsure, take a quick look at the surroundings. Loud appliances, busy spaces, or frequent changes can make some cats cautious. A calm, consistent setup can help them feel safe enough to give it a try.

Step 6
Reinforce Positive Moments
If your cat investigates or uses the new box, offer calm praise or a small reward. Gentle encouragement builds confidence.

Step 7
Stay Patient
Some cats adjust in a day. Others take a few weeks or more. Slow progress is still progress. They’ll get there and PETKIT is right here with you.
Change is a transition for both of you, so don't worry if it's not an instant match. Once PETKIT fits into your day, you’ll love the new normal (and you definitely won't miss the scooping).
Some Might Ask...
Is it safe for my cat?
Yes. PETKIT litter boxes are designed with multiple safety sensors and an anti-pinch structure. If your cat approaches or steps inside, the system automatically pauses cleaning to keep them safe.
What kind of litter can I use?
Clumping litter works best, including bentonite, tofu, or mixed clumping litter. These help the system separate waste efficiently and keep the litter fresh longer.
*The PUROBOT CRYSTAL DUO is the exception and requires crystal litter.
Can my kitten use this?
Yes, as long as your kitten weighs over 3.3 lbs (1.5 kg). This allows the sensors to detect them properly and operate safely.
Where should I place the litter box?
Place it on a flat, stable floor with enough space for your cat to enter. Avoid thick carpets or uneven surfaces.
Why does it keep showing “Cat Approaching” when cleaning starts?
The sensors are very sensitive by design. If your cat walks nearby or watches the litter box during cleaning, the system may pause. You can double-press the OK button on the panel to continue the cycle.
What is PETKIT Care+ in the app?
PETKIT Care+ is an optional subscription in the PETKIT app that unlocks advanced features like extended video history, deeper health insights, and enhanced activity tracking, helping you better understand your cat’s litter habits over time.
Can I return it if my cat won’t use it?
PETKIT offers a 30-day money-back guarantee so you can try it worry-free. If your cat doesn’t take to it, simply return the unit in its original packaging within 30 days and ask support for shipping Label. See our Return & Refund Policy for full details.
